Anek Molly, the 34-year old suspect, reportedly beat up her three year old daughter, Mercy Adong at 10:00am on Thursday using a mingling stick after the baby asked her for food.

Serious injuries were seen on the hands, buttocks, thighs and legs of the toddler as a result of the beating by her mother.

According to Okello Rashid, the secretary in charge of children’s affairs in Paicho sub-county, said that after interrogation, Anek revealed that she acted out of anger after her husband, Rashid Jamal, 22, failed to buy meat for Independence Day celebrations because he had no money.

The Uganda Police encourage all the members of the public to fight child torture in their communities, due to the devastating effects it causes children.

Some of the long-lasting implications of child torture are mental and physical heath damage, stress disorders, anxiety, depression, aggressiveness, drugs/alcohol or suicidal thoughts, trust issues and fear.

At Kumalo Daily, we therefore, encourage the public to report to the nearest police unit, any concerns of child torture and abuse, for the immediate attention to the Uganda Police Child and Protection Units. As Anek, the suspect goes to court, we pray that the court forbids her from having any unsupervised contact with the victim.
