It is a sad news for the people of Northern Uganda as Makome bus traveling from Gulu to Kampala was involved in a fatal accident early Monday morning after it collided with a herd of elephants near Karuma Travelers Inn, resulting to the death of the driver and critical injuries to six passengers.
According to Makome Bus Company Director, Mr. Okot Charles, the bus with registration number UAR 339M departed Gulu at 12:30AM.
The accident occurred when the vehicle encountered a group of four elephants on the road. The bus struck one of the animals, causing severe damage to the vehicle.
The bus driver identified as Okema Patrick, a resident of Palabek, was confirmed dead early this morning after the collision.
Plans are reportedly in progress to transfer those with minor injuries to Gulu for further management, where their families can more easily reach them.
