I am Dennis Labongo also known as BSG LABONGO from Nwoya district In Northern Uganda, born in 1983.
In 1992, when I was 9years Old..tragedy struck when the Lord’s Resistance Army abducted me and my father...in a few days in the attempt to escape my father was shot and killed by LRA and i was shot on my right leg while trying to run in attempt to escape,
Today, I am confined to crutches. Many think it's an accident. Anyone would wish this didn't happen. But all in all i thank God "Am still alive" Thousands of children died or become permanently disabled because of injuries of firearms or mines during the war in Northern Uganda. I am one of those children that became permanently disabled/crippled.
Years passed, when I inquired from where I was hospitalized, at Gulu referral hospital for my medical records.. I found out all medical records/forms before 1996 were all disposed off/burnt one of the medical stuff' said that to me after trying all they could to find the medical records..
As a child who was raised in an environment of war, i personally started using my history to address the issues of abduction, poverty, and disability. Out of this struggle came my incredible desire to spread a message of hope, love and awareness. Driven towards pure positive message. I boldly tackle the themes of disability is not inability and domestic violence while challenging my audiences to support and respect one another in the community. I am Known for a fusion of African beats, clear voice, and soulful lyrics, my songs have become national favorites. This eclectic mix of sound and style has secured my position as one of Ugandan’s favorite recording and live performing artists. I am fluent in English,Luo/Acoli,Luganda and incorporates each of these into my lyrics.
I started music recordings and performance in 2003. First single was recorded and released in 2006. I received music industry recognition in 2008 with a nomination for best hip-hop single "PRAISE THE LORD"
